OneSwarm is a P2P file exchange program based on BitTorrent. It was created by the University of Washington and is meant to be freely distributed and modified.
Its main appeal is that this service is very respectful of user privacy. All downloads are decentralized and all connections made by the program are encrypted, allowing you to maintain your anonymity.
It lets you search for all kinds of files and offers special controls for video and audio searches.
It supports bandwidth limitations for both uploading and downloading. You can also change the connection port and even enable remote access.
Another interesting OneSwarm feature lets you add friends with whom you can share files directly.

I've already tried it on Windows and Mac, and there don't seem to be many differences. It's not the best P2P, but at least one feels safer using it...
